Having a vision is common in the business world and in life coaching, but vision is also a must in marriage. Since marriage is a covenant that God created, we are to have awesome Christ-centered vision for our marriage. “Where there is no vision, the people perish…” (Proverbs 29:18a)
Soon after Marissa and I began dating, I shared with her part of my vision for our relationship. The longer we were together, the more I shared. This is the three part vision that God gave me for my relationship with Marissa and she caught the vision and is living it out with me:
1. We are a team to mobilize personal ministries including our future children.
The Great Commission starts in the home. “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19, 20) Jesus actually started where he was! He did not go far to invite twelve fisherman to follow Him and He did his first miracle for his family!
2. We are more effective together in advancing the Gospel of Jesus Christ than we are individually.
I knew I knew that I knew Marissa and I would be more powerful for Jesus together than apart! “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 NIV
3. I will present Marissa as holy and blameless to God.
“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.” Ephesians 5: 25-26
What vision has God given you for your marriage or future marriage? Post it below- we would love to read it and continue the conversation.
