How do I discern the will of God for my life?

0 to 70 Twenties in Eight Months

On November 1, God led Marissa and I to answer His calling on our life to launch a Navigators discipleship ministry among young professionals.  A common question I receive from all my past experience with college students

and now young professionals is, “How do I discern the will of God for my life”?  One scripture I lead them to is:

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.”   – Romans 12:2
Here are two ways i discern God’s will:
1.  I know that as a follower of Jesus, I am being  transformed by the renewing of my mind.  I can make decisions confidently because “we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ (1 Cor. 2:16).”
2.  I am able to ” test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.”      So, whatever plan or idea i have in my mind, I test it through questions such as: “Does this glorify Jesus?” and “Does this please God and fit His design for my life?”
Marissa and I put the idea of planting a Nav20s ministry among  young professionals to the test.  WE knew God was leading us to pioneer his ministry.  We launched it by faith!  I often share with others, “When God gives you a vision that glorifies Him, provision follows”.  So today, eight months later, there have been 70 young professionals who have been apart of this ministry.  They are equipped to go back  to live for Jesus and disciple among their peers “right where they live, work and play” where more are touched by the Gospel.
I encourage  you to boldly live out the calling God has on YOUR life by faith and watch God make it bigger than you are…”So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth. Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor.…” – 2 Corinthians 3:7-8
  • What do you need to do to move by faith and start what you already know God wants you to do?
  • What ways in the past have you discerned God’s will for your life that you’d like to encourage others with?
